You are encouraged to submit evidence to support your entry. No purchase necessary. Prizes: 1 of 2 x £15,000 for each winning town per Category, 8 in total. Prizes to be used as a contribution towards a community project (as approved by the Promoter). To receive the Prize, a representative from the winning town must sign a Winner Waiver. Full Terms & Conditions

  1. This Promotion is open to residents of the United Kingdom aged 18 or over, who are members of the Relevant Organisation of the Town they are nominating with a valid email address for that Relevant Organisation. Employees of the Promoter, their immediate families (defined as parents, children, siblings, spouse and life partners), the Promoter’s agent or anyone professionally associated with this Promotion are excluded from participation.

  2. For the purposes of this Promotion, a Town is defined as those areas with a population between 10,000 and 150,000 based on the Office of National Statistics built-up areas population distribution.

  3. Relevant Organisations: Local Authority, Town Council, Community Group (registered with Charity Commission or Companies House), Town Centre Partnership, Community Interest Company, Chambers of Commerce and Local Enterprise Partnerships.

  4. No purchase necessary; however, internet access is required.

  5. Promotion Period: Enter between 00:01 GMT on the 15 of January 2024 and 14:59 GMT on the 18 of February 2024 inclusive.

  6. To Enter: Visit www.visa.co.uk/campaign/talk-of-the-town/lets-celebrate-towns.html and complete the online form, providing your full name, job title, work email address, work phone number, Relevant Organisation name, name of town, the category you are entering and provide a written submission of no less than 250 words and no more than 1,500 words together with evidence in support of your submission, focusing specifically on the questions and criteria below to be entered into the Promotion. You are encouraged to submit evidence to support your entry. Evidence can be uploaded to the online form.

    1. Categories: There are four categories:

      1. Business Environment Sustainability, Infrastructure, and People and Skills. You must choose a minimum of one category to enter.

    2. Questions and Criteria:

      1. Business environment: Provide examples in answer to the questions below to demonstrate ways in which your town is helping the businesses environment to thrive. Not all questions have to be answered, but the more tangible examples that can be provided will help support a winning entry.

        1. Please provide examples of how your town is supporting small businesses and entrepreneurship, helping people to start, scale and grow new businesses.

        2. Please provide examples of how your town is supporting growth of digital businesses and reimagining high street spaces.

        3. Please provide examples of how your town is creating a vibrant business network e.g. co-working, mentoring programs and/or events.

      2. Infrastructure: Provide examples in answer to the questions below to demonstrate ways in which your town is working to make its infrastructure more efficient and accessible. Not all questions have to be answered, but the more tangible examples that can be provided will help support a winning entry.

        1. Please provide examples of how your town is using digital solutions to improve human and business connectivity.

        2. Please provide examples of how your town is improving physical and/or digital infrastructure to promote an inclusive society.

        3. Please provide examples of how your town is lowering barriers to promote the growth of businesses and support its workers.

      3. People and Skills: Provide examples in answer to the questions below to demonstrate ways in which your town is helping to boost skills and upskill the workforce. Not all questions have to be answered, but the more tangible examples that can be provided will help support a winning entry.

        1. Please provide examples of how your town is developing skills and retaining talent.

        2. Please provide examples of how your town is promoting access to skills development in underrepresented or hard-to-reach groups.

        3. Please provide examples of how your town is enhancing digital skills in your businesses and communities.

      4. Sustainability: Provide examples in answer to the questions below to demonstrate ways in which your town is helping to promote sustainability, and tackle issues ranging from air quality, transportation, housing, renewable energy production and consumption. Not all questions have to be answered, but the more tangible examples that can be provided will help support a winning entry.

        1. Please provide examples of any initiatives where your town is tackling specific sustainability challenges, e.g. air quality, adoption of electric vehicles, and renewable energy production and consumption.

        2. Please provide examples of how your town is promoting circularity practices amongst businesses and communities, e.g. reusing materials, reducing waste, recycling and/or optimising resource use.

        3. Please provide examples of how your town is celebrating green businesses and/or sustainability champions.

  7. Further Entry Details and Conditions:

    1. Evidence

      1. Whilst writing your entry, please provide evidence of the impact of your initiatives. This could include recording quantitative metrics such as revenue and vacancy rates. The key focus of your entry should be showcasing the strength of your local community through examples and evidence. Optional supporting evidence includes video files, images or other visual evidence. Video files should be a maximum of 2 minutes long (or only the first 2 minutes of a longer video will be eligible for judging) and uploaded to a third-party site such as YouTube or Vimeo, or your own server, and a link should be submitted with the entry. Image files or other visual evidence should be a maximum of 8MB in size and in one of the following formats: jpg, jpeg, png, gif, pdf and zip. Only submissions of visual imagery and not screenshots of text will be accepted.

      2. No more than 2 A4 pages of copy per evidence submission

    2. The member of the Relevant Organisation who nominates their Town, must have an email address that corresponds to their Relevant Organisation.

    3. Prizes should only be used in the Town nominated in the application.

    4. The Prize must be used in a manner that is in keeping with the spirit of the Promotion and used as a contribution towards a community programme. The prize money is awarded subject to Promoter agreeing to the community programme it is being dedicated to and financial requirements listed under Clause 10 have been met. Payment of the Prizes will be made into the business account of the Relevant Organisation.

  8. Maximum of 1 entry is permitted per category per Town during the Promotion Period. No Town may win more than 1 Prize. We recommend you work with other members of your Relevant Organisation to minimise the chance of duplicate entries. If there are duplicate entries, only the first entry submitted will be judged.

  9. The Prizes: There will be a total of 8 winners, two per category. Each winning town will win 1 x £15,000 to be used as a contribution towards a community programme (as approved by the Promoter and a Promoter led package of learning and development that Towns can choose businesses to be enrolled onto (businesses must be mentioned in the application)).

  10. Further Prize Details and Conditions:

    1. To receive the Prize, a representative from the winning town must sign a Winner Waiver.

    2. The Prize will be transferred once the winning town has provided details in relation to the community programme they would like to contribute to and the Promoter has subsequently approved this.

    3. The money will be transferred to the winning town’s bank account/fund via an electronic transfer.

    4. The winner will be asked to provide BACs details to redeem the cash portion of the Prize.

  11. Winner Selection: All valid entries received during the Promotion Period (subject to moderation) will be independently judged within 5 working days from the close of the Promotion Period to select 40 shortlisted entries (across the four categories, 10 for each category) based on the Categories, Questions and Criteria as per clause 6.
    The shortlisted entries will then be judged by a panel of judges, which includes an independent party, within 21 working days from the close of the Promotion Period to select 8 winners, 2 per Category. The judges will assess the Town based on what was written in the original entry and apply their own independent score against the Questions and Criteria detailed in clause 6 from a maximum score of 100 points.

  12. Winner Notification: Provisional winners will be contacted via the email address provided on entry within 5 working days of Winner Selection and will be asked to provide evidence of identity and eligibility. Reasonable efforts will be made to contact the provisional winners. Once eligibility has been confirmed, the provisional winner will be confirmed as a winner. If a provisional winner does not respond to the initial contact within 14 days, we reserve the right to disqualify that entrant and award the Prize to a reserve selected in the same manner. Reserve winners may have less time to respond.

  13. Prize Acceptance: Fulfilment of a Prize will take place within 28 days of acceptance of the Prize. In the unlikely event that a Prize does not arrive within 28 days the winner must inform the Promoter by emailing [email protected]. If a winner does not do so, the Promoter reserves the right to not reissue the Prize at its sole discretion.

  14. Moderation: The Promoter reserves the right to reject entries which, in the reasonable opinion of the Promoter:

    1. are in breach of the Terms & Conditions;

    2. contain any content that is offensive, harmful, objectionable or which is otherwise unsuitable for publication including with respect to race, religion, origin or gender, or which could reflect negatively upon the name, reputation or goodwill of the Promoter or any brand partner;

    3. include trademarks, logos, or copyrighted material not owned by you or used without the right holder's prior written permission (including famous names, company names, etc.);

    4. defames, misrepresents, or insult other people or companies, including, but not limited to the Promoter (including its partners);

    5. contains or refers to any unauthorised third-party brand or reference any third-party names, logos and/or trademarks;

    6. promotes any political party or affiliation.

  15. Provided no objection is received from the winners, a winners list containing the surname and county of residence of the winners will be made available by the Promoter 4 weeks after the close of the Promotion Period, for a period of 8 weeks. It will be available at www.visa.co.uk/campaign/talk-of-the-town/lets-celebrate-towns.html. Winners can object to their details being published during the Winner Notification process. Without prejudice, the Promoter will provide winner information to the Advertising Standards Authority when requested by them.

  16. The Promoter may request that the winners participate in publicity arising from the Promotion. Participation is at the winner’s discretion and is not a condition of Prize Acceptance.

  17. By submitting an entry into this Promotion, entrants confirm that they hold or have obtained the Relevant Organisation’s permission to make the entry, upload any evidence in support of their entry and that they are not infringing on the rights of any third party be making an entry.

  18. By entering the Promotion, entrants give their permission on behalf of themselves and the Relevant Organisation for their entries to be used by the Promoter or its agents without further compensation, over and above the award of the Prize, for up to two years for promotion purposes from the date of entry. Copyright will remain with the entrant. However, by entering this Promotion, and subject to clause 16 the entrant agrees to the Promoter or its agents publishing these entries on their website and possible further use on their website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or other social media platforms. They also agree to other possible promotional use in media of the Promoter or its agents’ choosing without any further payment, over and above the award of the Prize, for up to two years from the date of entry.

  19. The Promoter seeks to run a fair and secure promotion and prevent abuse and cheating. If you enter in a way that is not consistent with these Terms & Conditions, your entry (and any of your associated aliases) will be disqualified. Any Prize awarded may be void and recoverable, and the Promoter reserves the right to bar you from entering future promotions for a period of at least six months. For this reason, the Promoter reserves the right at any point to:

    1. Verify the eligibility of entrants and/or provisional winners through multiple means by requesting such information it consider reasonably necessary for this purpose. Entry or a Prize may be withheld until verification is completed.

    2. Disqualify entries that are not made directly by the individual entering the Promotion.

    3. Disqualify entries made using anonymous email services such as, but not limited to, GuerillaMail, Dispostable or Mailinator.

    4. Disqualify bulk entries from individuals, trade, consumer groups or third parties, incomplete entries and entries submitted by macros or other automated means.

    5. Disqualify entries beyond the maximum allowed, or those using techniques such as ‘script’, ‘brute force’, masking identity by manipulating IP addresses, using aliases or identities other than their own or any other means.

    6. Disqualify entrants who tamper with the entry process.

    7. Disqualify entries which, in some other way, do not meet the requirements of these Terms & Conditions.

    8. Cancel, modify or suspend the Promotion should it not be capable of running as planned for reasons including but not limited to tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, dishonesty, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Promoter which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Promotion.

  20. The Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be redeemed for monetary value or for any other form of compensation. If for any reason a Prize and/or any element of a Prize is not available, the Promoter reserves the right, at its sole discretion to substitute that Prize of a Prize for another of equal or greater value.

  21. No responsibility can be taken for entries which are lost, delayed, corrupted, damaged, misdirected or incomplete or which cannot be delivered for any technical, delivery or other reason. Proof of sending will not be accepted as proof of receipt. The Promoter does not guarantee continuous or secure access to the entry page.

  22. The Promoter and its associated agencies and companies are not liable for any loss (including, without limitation, indirect, special or consequential loss or loss of profits), expense or damage which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any person’s negligence) in connection with this Promotion (JS14278) or accepting or using the/a Prize(s), except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. Nothing will exclude the Promotor’s liability for death or personal injury as a result of its negligence.

  23. The Promoter will not be liable for any delay or failure to comply with its obligations for reasons beyond its reasonable control arising from but not limited to Acts of God, global or regional epidemic or pandemic, adverse weather conditions, fire, industrial dispute, war, terrorist activity, hostilities, political unrest, riots, civil commotion, plague or other natural calamities, or any other circumstances.

  24. All personal data supplied for this Promotion will be used for the purpose of this Promotion and for research and analytical purposes by the Promoter and/or by any agent appointed by it to assist with running the Promotion and will not be disclosed to an unconnected third party unless your positive consent has been obtained. Your personal data will be handled in accordance with the Promoter’s privacy policy, available at: https://usa.visa.com/legal/privacy-policy.html.

  25. If any part/s of these Terms & Conditions are legally ruled to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable, the remainder will not be affected and will continue in full force and effect.

  26. By entering, you will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.

  27. If there is a discrepancy between these Terms & Conditions and those in any promotional material, these Terms & Conditions will prevail.

  28. These Terms & Conditions are governed by English law and their interpretation and application will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. Residents of Scotland and Northern Ireland may bring proceedings in their own jurisdiction.
