Overview
This history-soaked city really does offer something for everyone, and it’s very easy to avoid the things you don’t want. The cost of living is lower than in most of Europe’s urban centres, but the quality of life is a lot higher.
Lively at any time of year, Amsterdam becomes a hive of activity at the end of April when Queen's Day street parties engulf the whole city. Spring and summer are also the perfect times to take a sunny stroll along the canals, visit the stunning gardens, or explore the old part of town on foot.
Amongst the throng of bicycles, tourists, houseboats, students, and street performers, you’ll find a selection of world-class museums and art galleries. Delve a bit deeper and you’ll find a contemporary classical music scene that’s accessible to anyone and should be experienced by everyone.
After you’ve visited the Anne Frank house and the Van Gogh Museum, and been thoroughly impressed by all the Dutch Masters in the Rijksmuseum, you can watch the world go past with a Dutch beer, a traditional caramel waffle and a smile on your face.
