Overview
New England’s largest city has a good helping of history on its plate, as well as an energetic, youthful vibrance, both of which lend Boston an unexplainable, homely charm.
There’s a huge amount to explore in Boston and late spring or summertime is the season to do it. You could walk the Freedom Trail (which will take you around 16 of the city’s historical sites), stroll around the harbour, sample a backyard barbecue, or catch a ball game at Fenway Park.
There are also a lot of major annual events to get your teeth into, for example the inspirational Boston Arts Festival, or the irresistible Italian summer feasts in the North End of the city. Boston also goes to town on Independence Day and hosts the week-long Harborfest festivities, including fireworks on the banks of the Charles River.
When night falls, get your glad rags on and head to one of the city’s ornate theatres where you can be wowed by the likes of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Ballet. Of course, a spot of punk may be more your scene, in which case, what better place to rock your Mohican than in the genre’s birthplace?
