Overview
The narrow winding road that snakes around the Amalfi Coast links some of Italy’s most beautiful towns, where tourists can experience some of the most picturesque sea views on earth.
Take a trip to Positano, a town carved out of the cliffs and harbouring a mystical atmosphere in its compact streets. John Steinbeck was moved to write "It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone." If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, live like a star by hiring a speedboat from the larger town of Sorrento and driving it out to the idyllic island of Capri. Here you can get off and spend the day wandering this celebrity haunt, or simply anchor up and dive into the crystal-clear water.
The region also hosts some incredible festivals as the days warm up, with Benvenuta Primavera marking the start of spring, giving spectators the opportunity to witness some fabulous street theatre and garden openings. The culture continues around Easter, when you can catch one of Naples’s many processions, or throw yourself into April’s Culture Week, when Italy’s publicly-owned museums and historic sites are free to all.
This being Italy, we can’t forget about the food. All around the Amalfi Coast you’ll find a genuine passion for cuisine, mouth-watering smells in the air, and chances are you’ll be served a plateful as irresistible as your surroundings.
