Why you should use contactless
- It’s fast – your Visa card doesn’t need to be inserted into a terminal and you don’t need to enter your PIN.
- It’s secure – contactless payments will only for work for low value payments (£15 and under) and, as an added security feature, you may occasionally be asked to enter your PIN. You can also ask for a receipt if you need one.
- It’s very convenient – you can pay quickly, you can go quickly, and you don’t need any change.
How contactless works
- If there’s a contactless ‘ripple’ symbol on the front of your Visa card, you can start using contactless right away

- You can make a contactless payment at any retailers that display the contactless acceptance ‘ripple’ symbol. Lots of retailers already support contactless, and more are joining all the time
- Just hold your Visa card in front of the contactless reader. The reader display will confirm your transaction has been successful.
- You can pay for anything that’s £15 & under. As an extra security measure, you may occasionally be asked to enter your PIN.
- And you’ve paid!
